Squirl, Inc., a Delaware corporation (“Squirl,” “our,” “us,” or "we") respects your privacy. We created this Privacy Policy to let you know what information we collect and how we use it, as well as our information sharing and protection practices.

  • Our proprietary service, including the Squirl app, the Squirl Author Tool and Squirl Maps (the “Service”);

  • The website www.Squirl.co (the “Website”);

  • Any mobile application we offer in connection with the Service (the “App”); and

  • Any email, text and other electronic communications between you and Squirl.

 

This Privacy Policy does not apply to:

 

  • Information we collect offline or by any other means (such as through other websites or services we may offer); and

  • Information collected by our affiliates or any other third parties, which may have their own privacy policies.

What information does Squirl collect?

  • Personal Identification Information: Squirl collects your name, email and profile picture added manually by you when signing into the application and creating a user profile, or through the use of a third party login service (Facebook public profile information).

  • App Related Preferences:  Squirl collects your personal in-app preferences, including your favorite authors, preferred genres, etc. This information is used to give you a more personalized app experience and to suggest books based on your reading preferences.

  • Technical Information: We may also collect and use technical data and related information to ensure system performance and resolve system bugs/crashes. This information can include device, system and application software, peripherals and other data related to your interactions with the Service(“Technical Information”). We may automatically collect Technical Information through cookies and log files. The information we collect from these technologies Squirl does not consider to be Personal Information.

  • Geo-Location Information: We may also collect information about your geographic location from you or your device, including your country, region, city, zip code, street address, time zone, latitude, longitude, velocity, bearing, altitude and horizontal position representation information (“Geo-Location Information”).

  • Website usage: We may use the Website and the Service to collect information from your web browser about your activities on our website (“Online Tracking Information”). Your web browser may allow you to opt-out of our collection of Online Tracking Information by selecting a “do not track” (or similar) setting.

  • Facebook Login: Users may use Facebook to log in to the app and author tool. We may collect information about your email and public profile (name and profile picture) for the purpose of logging in and creating a user profile on the mobile application.

 

How do we collect your data?

You directly provide Squirl with most of the data we collect. We collect data and process data when you:

  • Register for our service

  • Voluntary complete customer surveys or give us feedback through the website, app or email.

  • Create a user profile

  • Follow, bookmark or comment on in-app content and profiles

  • Use or view our website

 

Information You Voluntarily Disclose

 

Certain features of the Service and the Website are designed to publicly display or publish Information that you choose to provide to other users of the Service or to other third parties. These features include comments, wall posts and public profile information. Please keep in mind that whenever you voluntarily disclose Information through the Service or the Website, that Information can be collected and used by others. Additionally, you may receive unsolicited messages from other parties, including service providers, or make others aware of your location. You submit this Information at your own risk. We are not responsible for the security or privacy of any Information you choose to submit in connection with these public features.

 

How does Squirl use Information?

Except as described in this Privacy Policy or in our Terms of Service, Personal Information, Technical Information, Geo-Location Information, Online Tracking Information and Social Information (collectively, “Information”) that you provide or that we collect will be kept confidential and used to support your relationship with Squirl.

 We may use your Information, including your Personal Information, as follows:

  • To provide software updates, product support, product enhancements and other services to you related to the Service, the App and the Website.

  • To improve, market or promote Squirl’s products and services (including the Service).

  • To enable you to participate in features of the Service, the App or the Website.

  • To communicate with you, including about the Service, the App or the Website.

  • To alert you to product upgrades, special offers, updated information and other new products and services offered by Squirl or its third party partners.

  • To respond to comments, questions or requests for customer service.

  • To display advertisements, including advertisements from third parties.

  • For any other purpose we may describe when you provide the Information.

  • With your consent we may also use your Information for any other purpose.

 

How do we store your data?

Squirl securely stores your data at www.digitalocean.com, an established and secure cloud service provider with headquarters in the United States. (see https://www.digitalocean.com/security).

Our company will keep your login and app use data as long as you are a registered user. Once you have requested your data deletion, we will delete your data within 30 days. Alternatively you have the ability to delete your data directly from the Squirl app and author tool.

 

Security of Your Information

We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards designed to protect the Information. These safeguards include storing your Information on secure servers behind firewalls and using encryption technology. Despite the actions and precautions we take, no data transmissions over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Consequently, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of the Information and you acknowledge and agree that you transmit it to us at your own risk.

 

Information We Share

Except as described in this Privacy Policy, Squirl does not share, rent or sell your Personal Information with third parties. Squirl or its agents, vendors or contractors may disclose Information, including your Personal Information, to third parties in the following circumstances:

  • To our agents, vendors or contractors that we use to support the internal operations of our business including the Service and the Website and who are required to keep the Information confidential and use it only for the purposes for which we disclose it to them.

  • If required to do so by law, comply with legal process or to comply with a governmental or regulatory request;

  • To protect and defend the rights or property of Squirl or its agents or contractors;

  • To enforce our Terms of Service or other Squirl agreements;

  • To act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of the Service or the Website or the public; and

  • As part of a transaction or potential transaction where Squirl merges with another organization, files for bankruptcy, or sells its assets or capital stock.

We may provide links to third-party websites on the Website or in other communications to you. These links may appear as a specific domain name or URL or may be activated by clicking on an advertisement or other icon or graphic. Please be aware that other websites and services, including the websites of third parties that you connect with through the Service, may collect personally identifiable information about you. We cannot control and are not responsible for the information collection practices of any third-party websites, services or applications. We encourage you to carefully review their terms of use, privacy policies, and any other legal notifications before using or providing information through such websites, services or applications.

Further, the Service may employ third party technologies that require you to accept such third party’s terms. This Privacy Policy does not cover the information practices of those third-party technologies.

 Marketing

Our company would like to send you information about products and services of ours that we think you might like, as well as those of authors and publishers with content on the app or website.

If you have agreed to receive marketing, you may always opt out at a later date. You have the right at any time to stop our company from contacting you for marketing purposes. Every Squirl marketing mailing includes a button through which you can unsubscribe.

 

What are your data protection rights?

Squirl would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Every user is entitled to the following:

  • The right to access: You have the right to request copies of your personal data. We may charge you a small fee for this service.

  • The right to rectification: You have the right to request that Squirl corrects any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request Squirl to complete information you believe is incomplete.

  • The right to erasure: You have the right to request that Squirl erases your personal data, under certain conditions.

  • The right to restrict processing: You have the right to request that Squirl restricts the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.

  • The right to object to processing: You have the right to object to Squirl’s processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.

  • The right to data portability: You have the right to request that Squirl transfers the data that we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions.

You may delete your user account and its data through the profile tab on the mobile application or author tool. Alternatively, you may request deletion of your user information by sending an email to support@squirl.co. Squirl will use all reasonable efforts to delete your personal data processed through our website and/or mobile application within thirty (30) days of your writing.

Squirl uses cookies in a range of ways to improve your experience on our website and service, including:

Changes to this Privacy Policy

This is our entire Privacy Policy and it replaces any earlier version. We may change this Privacy Policy by posting a new version on the Website or through the Service or the Website, and it is your responsibility to review this Privacy Policy periodically. If we make material changes to our practices regarding the collection, use and sharing of your Personal Information, we will notify you via e-mail to the email address you provide to us and/or through a notice on the Website home page or via the Service or the Website.

When we do change the Privacy Policy, we will also revise the “revised” date. Your continued use of the Service or the Website after such date constitutes your agreement to this Privacy Policy and any updates.
